- Bishop: Community Colleges are good and should be improved. 13:12:13
- Bishop: College should not be only for the rich; it gives people access to the American dream. 13:13:34
- Now the panel begins 13:15:19
- At UC colleges, students are becoming angry because of the new fee increases. The students feel that their university system is at risk. 13:21:42
- University officials feel they are trying to stay out of politics relative to other interests, which might leave colleges with less money 13:25:14
- Students feel that there aren't as many champions for education advocating for them as there were in the 1960's. This could be a new era. 13:30:09
- There are more student protests going on right now than people notice. The California rally is unique because it got more media coverage. 13:35:06
- Pell Grants do not cover the full cost of college. Many Pell recipients compensate with private loans that often have high interest rates. 13:38:12
- It costs money for colleges to hire staff to administer loans. 13:41:44
- Though more prestigous, research universities cost more professors must research at least 50% of the time. 13:43:36
- Community colleges (where professors primarily teach) offer students the option to transfer to well known research universities. 13:45:37
- California students feel their freedom of choice (for higher education) is at risk. 13:47:59
- The nature of the student body has changed; there are more commuter students and older students than before. 13:53:24
